Tell a Story in 3 Photos: The Storytelling Photo Dare
You've done the 30-day thing. Now let's get sharper. Here's a creative prompts challenge that's a real workout for your eye: tell a full story in exactly three photos.
The rules: three shots, no captions, no text. The narrative has to live entirely in the images. That's it.
- Shot 1 — The set-up. Where are we? Who's there? Plant the scene.
- Shot 2 — The turn. Something happens. A shift, a surprise, a reveal.
- Shot 3 — The payoff. The ending. Make us feel something.
The trick is to leave room for the imagination. The best three-photo stories aren't overexplained — they give you just enough to fill in the gaps.
A great story photo makes the viewer work. That's the fun.
A few dares to try this week:
- A story that happens entirely at a single window
- A "good news / bad news" story
- Three photos that change meaning depending on the order you view them
Tag your triple with #DarePicz and we'll feature the best narrative arcs in the weekly gallery. Take the dare — and don't overthink shot one.
